Rax in New Carlisle, OH, feels like a charming relic of the past. While the location operates as drive-thru only and could use a little TLC--like brighter lighting and a refreshed menu board--it still delivers where it counts: the food. Yes, the drive-thru is slower compared to today's fast-paced standards, but the friendly service and quality make up for it. Back at my hotel, I was impressed with the meal. The fries were a pleasant surprise: thicker, like old-school Wendy's fries, and while not crispy, they had a great flavor. The Big Beef sandwich wasn't as loaded as I remembered, but the roast beef was tender, juicy, and delicious--every bite brought back great memories from years ago. To top it off, this place is a fantastic value. My entire meal--Big Beef sandwich, large fries, and a drink--was under $11! That's a rarity these days and made the experience even more satisfying. Rax may be a little rough around the edges, but it has so much potential. The nostalgic charm, delicious food, and affordable prices make me hope this gem gets the love it deserves. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town!

We wanted a new place to try around Dayton that was fast. This was nostalgic for us and fast. Food was good.

I couldn't believe this restaurant existed so I drove all the way from Cincinnati. The roast beef is even better than I remember from my childhood. The cherry turnover was great. Even the Coca-Cola tasted better than normal. Disappointed the lobby was closed but the drive through was efficient and friendly.

Rax Roast Beef is a trip down memory lane. I have gone here at least once a week since Rax bought this former Rancher Roast Beef. It was bought during COVID so the dinning room has always been closed. If you want a real 80s trip, after you visit Rex go to the only Children's Palace toy store around. It is just a short drive away.

We were out driving and decided to stop. We ordered some sandwiches, tenders, and sides. Let's start with the good. The beef and cheddar was good, a little skimpy on the meat, but better than the big chain place that serves similar food. I ordered the beef and cheddar, but my husband was kind enough to share some of his mushroom Swiss, it was so much better than the beef and cheddar. The fries? Some of the best in town. I thought they could use a little more salt, but the family was super happy with them as is. The onion petals were also very good. I really enjoyed the mozzarella sticks too, nice cheese pull and crispy. The one thing we were really disappointed with were the tenders. They were over cooked and had an odd spongy texture. My daughter described them as what she thinks slightly melted styrofoam would feel like. The taste of the tenders was fine, just that weird texture. The fact that the foods they're know for and the service were good rates them 4 stars. The tenders almost brought them down to two, but really, that's not that primary style of food. They are drive through only, the signs on the windows say "lobby is closed" and it's looks like the dining room is a storage area. I'd be great if they could clean that up and open it for dine-in.

You won't need to area a DeLorean to get your Rax fix. Rax is still alive and it is exactly like it always was. Arby's may have the meats but Rax has sesame seed buns. Those were once like a Michelin star among fast food. McDonald's even sang about sesame seed buns back in Rax' heyday. If you're driving along I-70, take the extra couple of minutes to go a mile off the interstate and take a trip down memory lane. It will be everything you ever remembered.
